Editor's Verdict:

The Movie Connect website is very nicely designed: it looks great, is clearly laid out and has an indefinable sheen of professionalism all over it. Their DVD inventory is comprehensively indexed by title, director, actor etc and an accessible, clever, multi layered browsing system which offers helpful and engaging reviews. Movie Connect also has the consideration to count TV box sets as one rental rather than drip feeding them to you one disc at a time. Movie Connect also prides itself on accessible, knowledgeable customer service; the few complaints we've heard seem to stem from not being able to cancel membership in time to avoid paying another month's dues on account of their being no post over holiday periods etc, which cannot entirely be blamed on Movie Connect.

The service works much like many of the other DVD rental sites listed in this category. You create a list of DVDs you want and however many DVDs your package allows you to have at once are sent to you by post in an order dictated by their ranking in your list and the availability of the discs. When you're done watching them, you just pop them in the pre-paid return envelope. Quite soon after they receive your returned DVDs they'll mail you the next batch of DVDs from your list

The value for money that their three packages offer is fairly competitive but this is somewhat mitigated by the lack of a free trial (they used to offer one but currently do not). There is a system by which you can earn discounts of up to 30% by pre-paying for a certain number of months on certain packages, but this is a bit convoluted and could perhaps be better explained on the website. These quibbles aside, Movie Connect looks set to emerge as a strong contender in the burgeoning DVD online rentals market.
