Editor's Verdict: As anyone who's walked down the high street of late knows, nothing says speed, convenience and value like deliberately poor spelling. Films2U prides itself on the quality and friendliness of its service and one-to-one accessibility to customers who have problems, and on being flexible to its subscriber's needs. It even offers a clever carrot (rather than stick) based incentive to return your films promptly in that there are no overdue fees but returning your DVDs within 7 days earns a bonus point, 10 of which rewards you with a free rental. Which is nice. The website is colourful, friendly and clearly laid out, emphasising accessibility rather than flashing banners and swish graphics. What is less clear from the main website is what services are currently being offered as Films 2U is currently transiting all its operations from a courier based pay-as-you-go system to the more familiar rental subscription system as operated by most of the other DVD rental sites in the country. You create a list of DVDs you want and however many DVDs your package allows you to have at once are sent to you by post. When you're done watching them, you just pop them in the pre-paid return envelope. As soon as they receive your returned DVDs they'll mail you your next batch of DVDs from your list. Some parts of the website still seem to refer to the old courier-based service and others to this first-class post-based subscription system, but presumably this will all soon be brought into line. Value for money is competitive, though not exceptional, in terms of what you would pay most major rental websites for an equivalent service, which is impressive given that this is a small operation that started out servicing only a small area of Northamptonshire by delivering films in person, rather than a multinational monster. Added to the personal service Films2U prides itself on, this makes the website a serious competitor in the burgeoning DVD online rental market. Shame about the spelling though.
