Editor's Verdict: You don't have to be a young Italian boy learning heartwarming life lessons from the projectionist at your local cinema to nurture a love of film with Cinema Paradiso. Cleverly incorporating this motif, the website is clearly laid out and easy to use, though the front page does suffer somewhat from looking more like a pop-up ad for itself than a welcome page in its own right. The choice of packages offered is wide and could perhaps be better explained in a clear table rather than text as it is on the front page (for a better explanation of the choices available click on "how it works"). There is a free-trial on some of them, though which this applies to is, again, not always clear. The service works much like many of the other DVD rental sites listed in this category. You create a list of DVDs you want and however many DVDs your package allows you to have at once are sent to you by post in an order dictated by their ranking in your list and the availability of the discs. When you're done watching them, you just pop them in the pre-paid return envelope. Quite soon after they receive your returned DVDs they'll mail you the next batch of DVDs from your list. Whilst the service provided by Cinema Paradiso is generally highly rated, there have on occasion been complaints that the rate of DVD turnaround sometimes suggests that the service really is being run by the elderly projectionist in a sleepy Sicilian village. Cinema Paradiso claims to be the cheapest online rental service in the UK and whilst some of their packages do indeed compare favorably with our number one choice and most of the other websites surveyed, this is less true of their light-use packages - if you just want a couple of DVDs a month you could probably do better.
